Try to avoid punching too narrow strips

 

When the CNC punch die is used for punching sheet metal with a width less than the thickness of the sheet, the punch will be bent and deformed due to lateral force, so that the gap on one side is too small or the wear is aggravated. In severe cases, the lower die will be scratched and the upper and lower dies will be damaged at the same time.

It is recommended not to step into narrow strips with a width less than 2.5 times the thickness of the plate. When too narrow strips are cut, the sheet tends to bend into the lower die opening, rather than being completely cut off, or even wedging into the sides of the die. If the above situation cannot be avoided, it is recommended to use a fully guided die with a backing plate that supports the punch.

 

Measures to prevent deformation of sheet metal when punching many holes

If a lot of holes are punched in a plate, the plate cannot remain flat due to the accumulation of punching shear stress. Each time a hole is punched, the material around the hole deforms downward, causing a tensile stress on the upper surface of the sheet and a compressive stress on the lower surface. For a small number of punched holes, the effect is not obvious, but when the number of punched holes increases, the tensile and compressive stresses accumulate somewhere until the material is deformed.

One way to eliminate this distortion is to punch every other hole first and then return to punch the remaining holes. Although this will also produce stress, but it alleviates the accumulation of stress in the same direction when stamping, and also makes the stress of the two groups of holes offset each other, thus preventing the deformation of the sheet metal.

 

Ways to eliminate and reduce sticking

Due to the pressure and heat of the CNC punch press, the fine particles of the sheet will be bonded to the surface of the punch, resulting in poor punching quality. The removal of sticky material can be polished by fine oil stone, and the grinding direction should be the same as the direction of the punch movement, so that further sticky material can be avoided after light. Do not use coarse gauze and other grinding, so as to avoid the punch surface is more rough, more prone to sticky material. Reasonable die clearance, good stamping process, as well as the necessary sheet metal lubrication, will reduce the generation of sticky material. To prevent overheating, lubrication is generally used, which will reduce friction. If lubrication is not possible or scrap rebound occurs, the following methods may be used:

The alternating use of multiple punches of the same size in turn allows for a longer cooling time before being reused. The overheated mold is stopped for use. Through the programming control die change, interrupt its long time to repeat the work, or reduce its stamping frequency.
